1920  Writes CREPUSCULOS, three lyric piano pieces, considered as his first important work

1922  Fernando Ember, his piano teacher, plays in Madrid on March 28 the premiere of CREPUSCULOS that draws the attention of the Spanish music critics.
Writes MARCHE JOYEUSE for piano. On the cover of the score, Salvador Dali draws his own self portrait.

1923 Adolfo Salazar, the prominent Spanish critic and musicologist introduces him to Manuel de Falla who, on one of the works shown to him HOMMAGE PETITE SUITE POUR TRIO writes "bravo". Greatly impressed by the quality of the works reviewed , Falla decides quite exceptionally, to take him as disciple to complete his musical education.
Writes a short essay on "LA OPERA CONTEMPORANEA EN ALEMANIA.MAX VON SCHILLINGS Y SU MONA LISA". Madrid. J. Amado.
His STRING QUARTET is premiered in Madrid.

1924 Manuel de Falla appoints him Music Director the dirección of the Orquesta Bética de Cámara de Sevilla which he had just founded. Halffter will keep his position until the Orchestra was dissolved.

1925 Wins the Spanish National Music Prize of that year for his SINFONIETTA for orchestra which makes him known at the international level.
With a grant from the Junta para Ampliación de Estúdios, goes to Paris to continue his musical studies under the guidance of Maurice Ravel.

1926 Writes the score for the film CARMEN directed by Jacques Feyder.

1927 Conducts in Paris the stage version of EL AMOR BRUJO by Manuel de Falla with the Spanish Ballets of la Argentina ( Antonia Merce ).
Premiere of his Sinfonietta for Orchestra on April 5th, in Madrid

1928 First performance in Madrid of the symphonic version of SONATINA later premiered in Paris as a ballet by the Spanish Ballets of la Argentina.
Marries the Portuguese pianist Alice Camara Santos.

1931 His SINFONIETTA represents Spain at the International Festival of the International Society of Contemporary Music, in Oxford.
Conducts several concerts in Barcelona with the celébrated Orquesta Pau Casals

1932 Writes SONATA PER PIANOFORTE.
Conducts several concerts at the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires and also in Lima and Havana.

1934 Appointed Director of the Conservatory of Music in Seville.

1936 In January he takes up permanent residence in Lisbon after receiving a grant for that year from the Fundación Conde de Cartagena of the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid, to continue working in a foreign country as required by the statutes of the Fundación, on his opera LA MUERTE DE CARMEN that he left unfinished at his death.

1937 Writes L‘ESPAGNOLADE for piano on the occasion of the International EXPO 37 in Paris and to participate in the homage paid to the French pianist Marguerite Long., by the foreign musicians then living in the capital of France.

1938 His son, Manuel, godson of Manuel de Falla, is born in Lisbon.
Orchestration of the SIETE CANCIONES POPULARES ESPAÑOLAS by Manuel de Falla.

1940 Premiere in Lisbon conducted by the author of RAPSODIA PORTUGUESA for piano and orchestra.
Writes SEIS CANCIONES POPULARES PORTUGUESAS based on Portuguese popular music.

1942 Appointed Professor assigned to the Instituto Español de Lisboa.

1943 Writes LLANTO POR RICARDO VIÑES for piano.

1945 Writes HABANERA and PREGON for piano and the score for the film BAMBU directed by José Luis Sáenz de Heredia.

1947 Writes the score for the film DON QUIJOTE DE LA MANCHA directed by Rafael Gil.

1949 Writes the score for the film EL AMOR BRUJO directed by Antonio Roman.

1951 Member of the Jury of the Marguerite Long- Jacques Thibaud International Piano Competition, in Paris.
Writes the score for the film LA SEÑORA DE FATIMA directed by Rafael Gil.

1953 Premiere in Paris of FANTASIA ESPAÑOLA for cello and piano.

1954 Writes the score for the film HISTORIAS DE LA RADIO directed by José Luis Sáenz de Heredia.

1955 Premiere in Madrid of his ballet EL COJO ENAMORADO by the Spanish Ballets of Pilar López.

1956 Antonio, dances at the FESTIVAL INTERNACIONAL DE MUSICA Y DANZA, in Granada, the premiere of his ballet FANTASIA GALAICA.

1957 In accordance with the decision of de Falla’s heirs, begins working on the completion of the cantata ATLANTIDA that Falla, at his death, in 1946, left unfinished.

1961 First performance in Barcelona of excerpts from ATLANTIDA in their concert version.

1962 Premiere of the stage version of ATLANTIDA at La Scala , in Milan.

1963 Gran Cruz de Alfonso X El Sabio.

1964 Writes CANTICUM IN P.P. JOHANNEM XXIII for two soloists, choir and orchestra

1967 Writes PSALMI.

1969 Premiere in Madrid of CONCIERTO PARA GUITARRA Y ORQUESTA under the direction of Igor Markevitch and Narciso Yepes as soloist.

1971 Conducts at the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires a special concert on the occasion of the 25 anniversary of de Falla’s death.

1973 Elected Member of the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando, in Madrid.

1974 Writes HOMENAJE A SALVADOR DALI based on two text by Dali, on the occasion of the opening of his Museum in Figueras.

1976 Premiere at the Festival de Lucerne of the second and revised version of ATLANTIDA conducted by Jesús López Cobos.

Lecturer and conductor in Argentina to celebrate de Falla’s Birth Centennial

1983 Received, for the second time, the Spanish National Music Prize for that year.

1987 Writes HOMENAJE A ARTHUR RUBINSTEIN for piano, premiered at the FESTIVAL INTERNACIONAL, in Santander.

1988 Writes HOMENAJE A TRES COMPOSITORES ESPAÑOLES, Federico Mompou, Joaquin Turina and Rodolfo Halffter, for piano.

1989 Dies in Madrid on July 5.
